Sailfish Caught with Terrie & Friends from Colorado

It was a pretty rough day out in Pacific today.  Bumpy, windy - just rough all around.  We went straight out from Sayulita and we caught one Dorado within 20 minutes.  Unfortunately, one of the girls started to get pretty seasick, so we started trolling for 30 minutes to help calm her stomach.  And then..BAM...we hooked this beautiful 130lbs, 6'2"ft long Sailfish!!  It took us about an hour to reel it in and gaff it.

I don't know if everyone knows this, but with Sailfish, the only way you can bring it into the boat is by gaffing it in the eye or grabbing the nose with gloves.  If you try and gaff it in the body, you'll just end up ripping the meat out, so it's little trick of the trade and takes some talent to gaff the Sailfish right in the eye as it's thrashing against the boat.

We decided to call it a day after our big catch and having one seasick girl on the boat.

Still, another good day of fishing in Sayulita!
